TT team for World’s
NEW DELHI: Four-time National champion Chetan Baboor will lead India’s challenge in the individual events of the Dawei 45th World Table Tennis Championships to be held in Eindhoven (Netherlands) from August 2-8.
S Raman, Arup Basak, Arjun Dutta and Bhushan Thakur are the other players expected to be cleared in the men’s section while N R Indu and Poulomi Ghatak will be the torch-bearers in the women’s section. Former National champion Kamlesh Mehta will accompany the team as coach. The final team list is expected to be announced next week.
S Sridhar (Mumbai) and Arun Bannerjee (Lucknow) will be the two umpires representing India at the event.
Baboor No 72
NEW DELHI: Chetan Baboor, who had a successful stint in the Asia Top 12 tournament in Iran a few months ago, has been ranked world No 72, according to the latest International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) bulletin. The Indian champion has moved one slot up from his 73rd position he held two monthsago. He has an aggregate of 1279 points. Kong Linghui of China leads the rankings in the men’s section with 2033 points.
India joint 113
MUMBAI: India hold the joint 113th position with Barbados in the latest FIFA monthly football rankings. India, thus, have maintained their position since the June rankings. India are occupying the 17th spot, one rung below Vietnam (overall 112th), among the 39 Asian countries to make the International Football Federation’s rankings list.
