Camp for pool games probables

BANGALORE: The second coaching camp for the billiards and snooker probables for the 1998 Asian Games is to begin here tomorrow under the guidance of Arvind Savur and Michael Ferriera.

While Geet Sethi, in London on an assignment, has been permitted to join the camp from February 10, Rafat Habib and Yasin Merchant, who are in Karachi playing snooker in the Asia Tour tournament, will miss the camp for a few days.

The third camp is scheduled to be held in the middle of June and the fourth and last camp will be held in August.

Spikers for Iran

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Indian national senior volleyball team would participate in the Fazar International Volleyball match at Iran from February 13-19. The team which played the Third Rasheed International at Dubai recently would be retained for the Iran tourney.

The Indian team is presently undergoing coaching at the volleyball academy at the Steel Plant complex here.

Roller skatingrally

BANGALORE: A roller skating rally will be held from Bangalore to Chennai on February 6 to highlight the evils of pollution.

Organising secretary of team Rollo, a school of skating, MS Poovaiah told newsmen here today that the rally was being organised under joint sponsorship of Bharat Petroleum and Indian Oil Corporation.

Eighteen skaters would take part in the rally which leaves Bangalore which will reach Chennai on February 8. The skaters will be lead by five times National champion Kavitha Poovaiah.

Short to play

CALCUTTA: Fourteen Grand Masters including former World title challenger Nigel Short of England would be among a galaxy of stars from 18 countries vying for honours at the ninth Goodricke Open Chess tournament beginning here from February six. Short, with a fide rating of 2660, would be the highest rated player taking part in the 11-day championship.Uzbek Alexander Nenashev would be looking for his second Goodricke title.
