Stephie Sequeira passes away
PUNE:
Stephie Sequeira nee D8217;Souza, 62, a prominent sports personality in the field of hockey and athletics and an Arjuna awardee died on Wednesday in Jamshedpur after a prolonged illness. Stephie, in her heydays, was one of the India8217;s ace athletes who had to her credit national records in 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m. She had won the silver medal in 1958 Tokyo Asian Games. She was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 1964. Stephie had also captained the Indian women8217;s hockey team and toured Japan and England twice and also had a chance to play in Germany, Holland, Iran and Philippines as a member of the squad.

All-India Volleyball
KARAIKAL:
Indian Telephone Industries ITI, Bangalore beat South Central Railway SCR, Secunderabad 15-10, 15-12 on the second day of the All-India Invitation Volleyball Tournament organised by the ONGC on Thursday. In the other match Punjab Police Jalandhar beat Southern Railway Chennai 15-4, 15-7.
