
Busy GP schedule ahead
CHANDIGARH: Indian badminton Grand Prix circuit starts with a Rs four lakh prize-money tournament to be held at Bhiwani, Haryana from October 13 to 17.
In a busy calendar, a Rs three lakh event follows at Indore from October 27 to 30 with Patna holding a Rs four lakh event from November 3 to 6 and another tournament with a similar purse to be held at Bhopal from December 4 to 7. The final of the Indian Grand Prix circuit comes off at Mumbai from December 28 to January 1 with a whopping Rs six lakh on offer.
Sahara Awards
MUMBAI: Seagram India today announced the Royal Stag Man-Of-The-Match and Man-Of-The-Series Awards for the forthcoming third Sahara Cup cricket series between India and Pakistan.
Special trophies have been crafted for both the awards. The Man-Of-The-Series will be winning a cash award of Canadian Dollar 5,000 at the end of the series along with an exquisitely designed trophy.
For each one of the five matches Man-Of-The-Match willwalk away with a scaled-down replica of the same trophy and a cash award of 1,000.
Golf probables
CALCUTTA: An eight-member Indian golf team, all probables for the forthcoming Eisenhower Trophy and Asian Games will leave for Singapore tomorrow to participate in the 51st Singapore Open Amateur Golf Championship 1998 at the Classic Course of the Laguna National Golf and Country Club from September 8-11.
The team comprised Harmeet Kahlon, Amish Jaitha, Sheeraz Kalra, Amit Luthra, Digvijay Singh, Amit Dube, Simarjeet Singh and Arjun Singh besides captain- cum-manager Vikramjit Singh.
Murali honoured
NEW DELHI: Former Sri Lanka captain Duleep Mendis was today presented with a cheque of Rs one lakh on behalf of ace bowler Muthiah Muralitharan for his brilliant performance in the one-off Test against England last week.
The cheque was given by Aushim Khetrapal of Radiant Sports and Entertainment.
The company has signed up Maravan Attapattu, Muralitharan, Mahila Jayawardeneand Aravinda de Silva in Colombo this year for management and marketing contracts.

CHENNAI: Top football clubs of the country, including Dempo, Goa, and FC Kochi will take part in the seventh All-India Centre Revenue Open Invitation Football tournament to be held here from Sept 6 to 20.
WCAI elections
HYDERABAD: The elections to the Women8217;s Cricket Association of India WCAI will be held at its special general body meeting in New Delhi on October 7, according to WCAI secretary Anuradha Dutta.
At the recently held General Body Meeting here the WCAI had finalised the calender of events for the year 1998-99. While the senior Nationals would be held at Pune in December, the sub junior Nationals would be held at Calcutta in February 1999.
