Team for World billiards
CHENNAI:
A four-member Indian team, along with a coach-cum-manager, has been cleared to participate in the Walter Lindrum Centenary World billiards championship in Melbourne, from August 17 to 29.

The players cleared are: Arun Agarwal Maharashtra, Manoj Kothari Bengal B Bhaskar Karnataka and Sham Jagtiani Bengal, while Arvind Savur Karnataka will accompany as the coach-cum-manager.

With no restriction on entries, the centre has also cleared four other players on a no-cost-to-Government basis. They are: Subhash Agarwal Maharashtra, Aditya Goenka Rajasthan, Nalin Patel Maharashtra and Mukesh Rehani Delhi.

Thakur triumphs
THANE:
A 15-year old Indian has won the 11th International Zurich Lake marathon swimming held at Zurich. Kaveri Ajit Thakur from Thane stood first among the girls in the junior solo swimmers section among other international competitors in nine hours, 56 minutes, 25 seconds. The swimmer was helped by the Thane MunicipalCorporation to participate in the event where all the participants had entered individually from various parts of the country.

Fed final deferred
CALCUTTA:
The final of the KBL Federation Cup football tournament, earlier scheduled for September 6, has been postponed till September 13.

The All-India Football Federation AIFF decided to defer the title match to be held at Salt Lake Stadium here after AIFF president Priyaranjan Dasmunshi and United Breweries chairman Vijay Mallya expressed their inability to make themselves available before September 13.

K-1000 Rally
BANGALORE:
A total prize-money of Rs 2.25 lakh will be up for grabs in the Castrol 24th Karnataka-1000 rally to be run on August 13.

Twenty-eight cars and 70 bikes are in the fray in the event to be run over 500 kms. Of these, 145 kms are of Special Stages which consists 97 per cent dirt and the rest tarmac, according to Karnataka Motor Sports Club chairman A T Nahendar.

LIC table tennis
NAGPUR:
Paddlers from16 divisions are expected to take part in the Life Insurance Corporation8217;s LIC West Zone table tennis selection trials which begin here at Robertson YMCA Hall on August 12.

Addressing a press conference here today, the senior divisional manager and chairman of organising committee, Vijay Deshmukh, said players from Mumbai, Surat, Satara, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Goa, Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar, Thane, Pune, Nasik, Vadodara, Amravati, Nanded, Nadiad and Ahmedabad will take part in the two-day meet. There will be singles events knock-out only.

Punjab in semis
