
BFA kicks off today
CALCUTTA: The Bengal Football Academy BFA, West Bengal8217;s maiden residential soccer clinic which promises to transform the character of football in the state, would come into existence tomorrow with a star-studded exhibition match at the Salt Lake stadium here.
Academy president and matinee idol Mithun Chakraborty, along with a host of former footballers, are the moving force behind setting up the academy in assistance with the state government to uplift the game by grooming young talents from all over the state for five years.
FMSCI commission
CHENNAI: The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India FMSCI has authorised the formation of a commission to look into the complaints of two-wheeler competitors and suggest remedial measures.
The two-wheeler Commission will include, among others, Sheriff Dyan, Sham Kothari, Jagat Nanjappa and Dhananjay Datnagare, with FMSCI councillor Khushroo Madan, overseeing its work until the Commission elects a chairman who willrepresent it on the Council.
AIFF coach
NEW DELHI: All India Football Federation AIFF is going all out to enlist a reputed foreign coach in its bid to lift the national team8217;s performance and world rankings. AIFF president, PR Dasmunshi announced here last night that he would arrive at the choice during the June 20 meeting with FIFA coaches and officials at Paris during the coming World Cup.
Hitherto India had been unable to rope in any big name to handle the senior side as AIFF has not been in a position to afford the huge amounts demanded.
Mishra struggling
NEW DELHI: Hero of India8217;s silver-winning junior World Cup hockey squad, striker Rajiv Mishra is struggling to recover from a knee injury which has become much cause for anxiety in the aftermath of the National team8217;s poor ninth placing in the Utrecht senior World Cup recently.
The 21-year-old and Dhanraj Pillay ended up being the focus of a major controversy after failing to recover from injuries. He has not recovered fromthe knee arthroscopy he underwent on March 21, was dropped after travelling to Utrecht.
GP Badminton
HYDERABAD: About 72 top shuttlers will be seen in action in the Rs 4 lakh Indian Grand Prix badminton tournament to be held at Jubilee Hills International Centre here.
The knockout tournament proper will begin on June 8, a day after the qualifying matches, and will conclude on June 11.
