Veer Abhimanyu, Lord Buddha, Lord Krishna and Veer Savarkar all have received lessons in the womb itself. No wonder it is said that the mother is the first Guru of the foetus and her influence on the foetus is paramount. With the aim of training children, while they are still in their mother8217;s wombs, AURA, an Abacus Training and Mind Development Centre, has planned to conduct abacus training for pregnant women. Abacus training is provided to children in a structured methodology, children exhibit enhanced skills in their overall self-learning techniques like concentration, memory, speed, accuracy and visualisation. Normally, this training is given during the brain development phase 4 to 14 yrs of age, which makes it natural for a child to absorb the skills and retain them for life.

Varsha Shinde, the organiser said, 8220;Pregnancy is not given much importance in India in spite of it being a crucial phase in a woman8217;s life. So, I decided to launch abacus training in Pune to help expectant mothers.8221; During this training, expectant mothers get trained in the Abacus method of solving Arithmetic problems. It is our belief that when the children of Abacus trained mothers grow up, they will be proficient in numbers and logical thinking and analytical capabilities.

Dr Uma Sudhakar, a renowned gynecologist from Bellary, Karnataka, who has successfully conducted this training on her patients, says, 8220;The idea of instilling the knowledge of Abacus in the foetus amazes me. In my opinion, it is better to start the abacus programme after 14 weeks of gestation, because, organogenesis will be over in the 14th week of gestation and during this time, the foetus can appreciate the sound waves but the actual clear hearing starts in the 20th week. All the pregnant women in the class were a little tense in the first class, but in later classes, they began enjoying themselves and a few of them even said they are appreciating increased foetal movements, while they worked on abacus8221; The training will begin on December 15. In 12 elaborate sessions, the focus will be on providing the concept of numbers and developing arithmetic skills in the baby by training the expecting mother in abacus skills. Classes will be conducted every Monday and Thursday from 11 am to 1pm at Suyojana Society, Lane No 5, Koregaon Park.
