
Dr Shipurkar no more
Kolhapur: Noted dental surgeon and former president of Kolhapur Dental Association, Avinash Shipurkar, died of a heart attack here recently. He was 50 and is survived by wife and two daughters.
Hailing from Nipani, a multifaceted Dr Shipurkar was associated with various associations working in the field of medicine as well as music and education. He was a member of local branch of Medical Association and the founder of a study group of destists in Kolhapur and Sangli districts. He also was the director of the Residency Club here and Rotary Club of Shiroli MIDC.
Nine injured in cylinder blast
Pune: Nine persons were wounded, a 19-year-old girl seriously, when an LPG cylinder in the kitchen of Suresh Kolekar in Shahu Nagar exploded, early Sunday morning.
The explosion blew away the door of the Kolekar house injuring four persons gathered by a public tap.
The injured, 19-year-old Rani who has sustained serious wounds, Suresh Kolekar 45, wife Shobha 35, daughter Dimple 14, son Bharat 17 and Jehangir Bargir 40, Shamal Dhotre 25, Muktabai Jadhav 55 and Datta Bajaji 25 have been admitted to the CPR Hospital here.
Army recruitment
Satara: The army recruitment office in Kolhapur has planned a recruitment camp at Satara between October 26 and November 1 as a parts of its ongoing recruitment campaign.
Interested youths in the age group of 16 to 22 should report at the police grounds here at 7 morning on September 26 and 27 with original copies of SSC certificate and sports and NCC cerificates.
Also needed are two attested photostate copies of all the certificates and three passport size recently taken photographs.
Fined for illegal quarrying
Satara: The tehsildar here has slapped a Rs 52 lakh fine on the Jai Hanuman Vadar Samaj Sahakari Society for illegal quarrying at a hillock owned by the Mahabaleshwar temple trust.
