Oppn pulls up Mayor n THE Opposition in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC today charged Mayor Nandu Satam of failing to visit Qureshi Nagar in Kurla because it was a Muslim-dominated area. The colony was recenly hit by gastroenteritis resulting in the death of two persons.

At the general body meeting of the BMC, Congress corporator Ravindra Pawar moved a notice of motion stating that while Satam had promptly visited Manori late last year after the people there were affect by a mysterious illness, he failed to come to Kurla. Other councillors joined Pawar in charging the Mayor of avoiding the visit.

Satam denied the charge. Chairperson of the Health Committee, Sardar Tara Singh, who said: 8220;We had left no stone unturned to combat the disease; and took 200 water samples from the area to detect the water contamination. How can the Opposition make such a frivolous allegation.8221;

No Water supply n DEPUTY Mayor Gopal Shetty was furious at his Water Supply Dep staff during ameeting today when he found that they had refused to provide water to a clinic at Borivli because a circluar on provision of clean water to everyone had not reached the ward office.

In reply to a circular Shetty had issued a month ago, the department had agreed to provide water connections on or before January 1, 1995. The proposal was placed before the MiC on November 21 which passed it in its sixth meeting.
