PUNE, Sept 29: The Poona District State Government Employees’ Federation, which represents 35,000 people, has pressed for immediate payment of advance against bonus amounting to Rs 10,000 to officers and Rs 5,000 to all others.
At a press conference held this morning, Narayan Joshi, president of the federation, called for immediate implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission report. He said if the government did not comply with their demands, dharnas will be staged on October 5, 6 and 7 in front of the collector’s office and other places.
“The Central Government has already declared this bonus and if we consider commission recommendation, the dearness allowance and difference in basic pay for State government employees in the past three months, it amounts to Rs 18,000 per head,” he said, adding that the money they need to celebrate Diwali was being demanded against this payment. Letters will be sent to the Chief Minister regarding the bonus problems also, he added.
He said there was great discontentment with the Sukathankar committee report, which has suggested a cut in employee’s salaries. “No commission has ever reduced salary or scales before and the Government needs to discuss this with the members of the federation,” he said. He said “It is repeatedly stated that major share of the revenue income goes into payment of salaries of employees. This is not so. Only 17 per cent of the government income is spent in the salaries of employees”.
