
CHANDIGARH, Aug 25: Headquarters Western Command, Chandimandir, has been made a Regional Centre for the newly launched IGNOU-Army Educational Project IAEP.
The project, a collaboration with the Delhi-based Indira Gandhi National Open University and the Army, is directed to enhance the educational qualifications and professional skills of Army personnel, specially those posted in far flung areas. This follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the Director General Military Training and the IGNOU Vice-Chancellor in this regard. The Colonel Education, Western Command, Col I.S. Punia, has been appointed as the Regional Director here.
Further, four regional study centres have been established at HRD centres at Chandimandir, Ambala, Bathinda and Jalandhar, which will provide educational facilities for academic, computer and management programmes.
Present courses available include MBA, BA, B.Comm, diplomas in management and tourism, postgraduate diplomas in journalism and mass communication, management, human resource management as well as certificate courses in disaster management, environmental studies and computing.
Meanwhile, keeping operational commitments of the Army in mind, the last date for submission of applications for admission to academic and computer courses, commencing from January 2000, has been extended to September 15.
