The Indian Airlines on Friday took on rivals Jet and Sahara with a new super-apex fare slab on tickets bought 28 days D-28 in advance. This is two days less than those offered by Air Sahara and Jet Airways. The IA slashed the fares in response to any Air Deccan challenge. IA commercial director Anil Goyal said: 8216;8216;Everyone will react at that time, depending on how many seats will it Air Deccan offer at what fare levels. GR Gopinath, head, Air Deccan, had said the first five seats booked 90 days in advance on any metro route will come for Rs 500. Gopinath said the next bucket of Rs 800 will be opened for another five tickets and so on.
The new D-28 Segment would be valid for travel on major metro sectors: Delhi-Mumbai Rs 2,500, Delhi-Kolkata Rs 3,000, Delhi-Hyderabad Rs 3,000, Delhi-Bangalore Rs 3,500, Delhi-Chennai Rs 3,500, Kolkata-Mumbai Rs 3,500, Kolkata-Bangalore Rs 3,500 and Chennai-Kolkata Rs 3,500. These fares are on one-way trips.
IA8217;s commercial director Anil Goyal said the D-28 fares would be available for sale on one way as well as round trips. This is unlike Air Sahara which provides special fares on round trips.
The 30-day advance fare offered by Air Sahara is valid throughout the year while the D-28 Fare of IA would be valid for sale only till October 15.
Goyal pointed out that the airline had already launched the metro-non-metro scheme between July 16 and october 15 under which a passenger travelling between two metros could further take a flight to a non-metro city by paying just Rs 1,000.
