Taking a leaf from Mayawati’s social engineering formula, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav is seeking to woo the Brahmin community in Bihar. Disregarding the claims of many senior leaders in the party, Lalu got Raghunath Jha inducted into the Union Council of Ministers. Then the RJD chief recently picked up the phone to call a Brahmin minister in Nitish Kumar’s Cabinet and offer him a lucrative future at the Centre if he joined the RJD. The minister refused to take the bait. Brahmins constitute around 9 per cent of Bihar’s electorate and they have been voting against the RJD all these years.
