The coaching scenario in other parts of the world is unfolding quickly too. Here is a general world overview as of Wednesday.
Greg signs up, Wright says no
8226; Melbourne: Even as Greg Chappell joins up with the Cricket Australia CA to work as consultant coach at its Centre of Excellence in Brisbane, New Zealander John Wright has said no to the post of head coach at the same place. Wright said he was keen to take up the offer, but eventually withdrew because he wanted to spend time with his kids.
8220;It didn8217;t quite work out. I haven8217;t been back in New Zealand long, and I was away for four and-a-half years. I8217;ve got teenage kids aged 15 and 13. It8217;s just not the right time,8221; he was quoted as saying by New Zealand Press Association NZPA.
However, joining in with Chappell at the academy part-time will be former Australian pacer Bruce Reid. Wright was in fact CA8217;s first choice to fill the void created after Tim Nielsen left the head coach8217;s job to succeed John Buchanan with the Australian team. But Wright withdrew from the race.
Bayliss joins Lanka race
Meanwhile the Sri Lanka job also has its seekers. Eyeing the post vacated by Tom Moody, New South Wales coach Trevor Bayliss will travel to Colombo next week for an interview with the Sri Lankan national cricket team.
It8217;s going to be an all-Australian, three-horse race where Bayliss would have to stave off competition from Australian assistant coach Jamie Siddons and Queensland mentor Terry Oliver, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Hope for Whatmore
8226; Dhaka: Dav Whatmore, somewhat stranded with the Indian setback, could see some hope yet with Bangladesh authorities said the door was still open for their former coach.
8220;Our door is still open for Whatmore. He is a great coach and the Bangladesh team has improved a lot during his four-year tenure,8221; Bangladesh Cricket Board BCB general secretary Mahbub Anam said, agencies further reported. Anam heads the board8217;s coach-hunting mission launched when Whatmore quit last month. The BCB had reportedly offered an improved package.
