
Davenport to meet Hingis
NEW YORK: Top seed Martina Hingis and second-ranked Lindsay Davenport advanced to the WTA Championship finals for the second year in a row with straight-set victories on Saturday night.
Defending champion Hingis defeated third seed Venus Williams 6-4 7-6 7-2 while Davenport ousted sixth seed Nathalie Tauziat of France 7-6 7/3 6-0.
Boy from Brazil
AUCKLAND: A boy from Brazil bearing the famous soccer name Leonardo scored a hat-trick today as they beat Paraguay 4-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the Under-17 World championship.
Leonardo, who shares the name with the AC Milan and Brazil senior team star, scored twice inside the opening 37 minutes and restored the margin with his third on 56 after Paraguay8217;s Alejandro Da Silva scored just before halftime. Australia meet US, and Brazil take on Ghana in the semis.
