Caldirola thrown out of Tour

PARIS: Italian team Vini Caldirola, whose team leader is Ukrainian Sergei Honchar, has been thrown out of the Tour de France. The news comes just one day after Honchar was thrown out of the Tour of Switzerland after a blood test showed a level of Red Blood Cells above the legal threshold of 50 per cent.

Athlete dies

BATH: Rising Scottish athletics star Ross Baillie died in hospital Friday after suffering a seizure triggered by a nut allergy. Baillie, 21, a finalist in the 110 metre hurdles at last year8217;s Commonwealth Games for Scotland, suffered the reaction after eating a chicken sandwich during a break in training in Bath on Wednesday.

Petrovic nominated

SPRINGFIELD: Late Darzen Petrovic, a Yugoslavian superstar who played in the National Basketball Association, and Brazilian star Pereira Maciel Ubiratan were nominated by the International Screening Committee for election into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Petrovic and Ubiratan join a 17-person listof North American, Veteran8217;s and Women8217;s Screening Committee nominees that were recently released by the Basketball Hall of Fame.
