Lara ends 14-month century drought
LONDON: Embattled West Indies cricket captain Brian Lara has scored his first century in 14 months, ending a string of disappointing innings which had his supporters at Warwickshire starting to turn against him.
Lara scored an unbeaten 139 to boost Warwickshire to 242 for three against Middlesex in the County championsip match at Lord’s yesterday.
He had gone 39 innings without scoring a century while his average dropped to 40. His captaincy at Warwickshire and his status as the world’s best batsman were underthreat.
Tyson’s fate to be decided today
TRENTON (NEW JERSEY): New Jersey regulators will meet today to consider whether Mike Tyson can return to boxing, but they are not expected to issue a decision.
The State Athletic Control Board will meet in a private session at 10 a.m. local time to review Tyson’s application and to deliberate, spokesman Roger Shatzkin said yesterday.
Tyson, 32, hasn’t fought since June 1997, when he bit the ears of WBA heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield during a bout in Las Vegas. Nevada regulators revoked his boxing license and said he could reapply after one year. Tyson opted to apply for a license in New Jersey instead.
