August 20: Greater Bombay Police GBP overpowered Vendan Institute 4-1 in the MDFA Division I football league for the Chhatrapatti Shivaji Maharaj Trophy at the St Xavier8217;s Ground, Parel, today.

The cops, who led 3-1 at the interval, shot into the lead as earlys as the second minute through Baba Kohram who accepted Dilip Lad8217;s pass from the right before beating Aditya Bhatkar in goal.

Vendan Institute, however, were on level terms thanks to Abhishek Yadav who latched on to Joshua Lewis8217; pass to get the better of GBP custodian Vittal Mahadeshwar from close range.

Dilip Lad regained the lead for the cops in the 29th minute after Kapil Chavan did the spade work and two minutes later GBP consolidated through Venkatesh Todalkar who scored after a solo effort.

Chauhan swelled the lead for GBP in the 47th minute to put the cops 4-1 up and the issue beyond doubt. Vendan, however, could have reduced the margin but Mahadeshwar showed fine reflexes to thwart Lewis8217; header in the closing minutes.

Earlier in the day Cafe Royal blanked Nelson Boys Sahar 3-0 in a Third Division encounter.

After a barren first half, Francis Pereira put Cafe Royal ahead from Savio D8217;Souza8217;s pass.The winners went two-up when Kennen Oliver scored after combining with Peter Fernades.A left-footer by Oliver completed the tally after Leroy Nunes laid a pass.

Don Bosco Matunga B8217; outplayed St Mary8217;s Kalina 4-1 in an under-16 III Inter-Schools football play-off at the St Xavier8217;s Ground, Parel, today.Ivo Miranda, Euston Fernandes, Agnelo Pereira and Abhishek Menon netted for the winners. Anthony Peitade scored for the Kalina school.
