
PUNE, July 9: After a gap of almost a month, the Pune Municipal Corporation PMC today resumed dumping garbage at the garbage depot at Urali Devachi village. Disposal of garbage at the dump was stopped after both the approach roads to the garbage depot were blocked.
Pune civic administration had decided to resume dumping of garbage at Urali Devachi village with immediate effect after it came to the notice of Municipal Commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad that the increased pressure on the Kothrud garbage depot and posing major health hazards in the area.
Gaikwad had ordered an inquiry into the matter after residents of Kothrud approached him with a complaint. He had also ordered a departmental inquiry involving assistant health chief P S Dhaigude when the latter failed to provide any information in this connection.
The quantity of garbage being dumped at Kothrud had increased by 300 to 350 tones per day ever since the administration stopped dumping garbage at Urali Devachi about a month back. Consequently, little vacant space was left for movement of vehicles at the Kothrud garbage depot.
