We are talking about Asin Thottumkal. From making her debut as a teenager in South cinema to becoming one of the biggest stars across Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films, here’s a closer look at journey.

Asin debuted at 16, went on to become a leading star in Kollywood

Asin Thottumkal was born in Kochi, Kerala. Her father is a former CBI officer, while her mother is a doctor. She began her career in modelling and featured in a BPL advertisement before making her debut in the Malayalam film Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001) when she was just 16 years old. She became an instant hit in the South with her second film, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, a Telugu film released in 2003.

After starring in four to five Telugu films, she moved to the Tamil film industry with Ravi Mohan’s M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi. She went on to deliver hit after hit in Tamil cinema with films like Ghajini, Ullam Ketkumae, Sivakasi, and several others. Asin soon became one of the most sought-after actresses in the South, working with superstars like Suriya, Vikram, Vijay, Ajith Kumar, and more.

Salman Khan to Akshay Kumar, Asin worked with Bollywood A-listers

After working extensively with South superstars, Asin made her Bollywood debut opposite one of the industry’s biggest stars, Aamir Khan, in the Hindi remake of her Tamil blockbuster Ghajini (2008). The film emerged as a massive box office success and became the first ever Bollywood film to cross Rs 100 crore net domestically. Asin was undoubtedly among the most sought-after actresses of the 2000s.

She went on to work with several A-listers in Hindi cinema. Asin starred opposite Salman Khan in London Dreams and Ready, and was also part of multistarrers like Housefull 2 and Bol Bachchan. She worked with Akshay Kumar in Khiladi 786. Her last film was Abhishek Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor’s All Is Well in 2015, after which she bid adieu to the film industry.

Who is Asin’s husband and his net worth

A year after her final film, Asin tied the knot with Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Micromax, in 2016. The couple welcomed their daughter, Arin Rayn Sharma, in 2017.

Micromax is among the first Indian multinational manufacturers of consumer electronics and home appliances and is one of the few homegrown affordable mobile brands. As per a report by The Economic Times, Rahul started the company after taking a small loan of Rs 3 lakh from his father in 2000. The company entered the mobile phone business in 2008 and soon became one of the largest Indian manufacturers of low-cost phones.

Rahul Sharma is a mechanical engineering graduate from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University and also holds a commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada. As per his LinkedIn profile, apart from co-founding Micromax, Rahul has also co-founded two other startups — Bhagwati Products Limited, a manufacturer and assembler of innovative electronic items and telecommunication devices, and MiPhi Semiconductors Private Limited. He has also launched Revolt Intellicorp, India’s first AI-based electric motorcycle brand. Rahul recently appeared on Nikhil Kamath’s podcast.

According to reports by Forbes and GQ India, Rahul Sharma’s net worth is reportedly estimated to be around Rs 1,300 crore.

Recently, Rahul Sharma shared never-seen-before photos from his and Asin’s Christian wedding on the occasion of their 10th anniversary. He also penned a sweet note for Asin, calling her the “co-founder of everything that matters in my life.”

He wrote, “10 blissful years… She’s the incredible co-founder of everything that matters in my life, and I’m fortunate to be cast as a co-star in hers! Happy 10th anniversary, my love. May you run our home and my heart like a high-growth startup, and I show up on the set of your life everyday. Here’s to an incredible future together.”
