Comedy never had such power players as last week. At a ceremony to hand over the Sasan project to Reliance Energy after Lanco’s bid was cancelled, there were several goof-ups. First, Montek Singh Ahluwalia landed at the venue to find the entire hall empty —- he had not been informed that the ceremony had been pushed back by an hour. Much more than an hour later, others trooped in. These included Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Planning Commission officials, but the star attraction, Anil Ambani, was not to be seen. After the customary announcements on the event, Ambani walked in, only to find himself standing with the rest of the crowd. Nobody invited him onto the dais. Then, even as his name was being announced, the Ambani scion walked out of the hall, with several executives from Power Finance Corporation and REL running after him in utter confusion. A few anxious moments later, the Reliance head resurfaced. He had only disappeared to don a jacket which he had forgotten to wear when he walked into the hall.
