Funds allocated for school repairs

AHMEDABAD, Oct 6: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will provide for a special budgetary allocation for repairs and maintenance of school buildings run by its school board.

This was stated by Mayor Malini Atit on Wednesday while expressing shock at the death of a watchman8217;s daughter after a roof tile fell on her head last month. The mayor said she would visit the spot on Thursday to see for herself the condition of the school building. She admitted that several schools in the city needed urgent repairs but that was not being done. 8220;We will hold a high level meeting to create special budget head for repairs and maintenance of school buildings,8221; she said.

Meanwhile the roof of the one room quarter of watchman Ahmed Husain Ansari has so many holes that he and family has to quot;shift to a school classroom when it rainsquot;.

Leaking roof is not the sole reason to vacate the room. The neem tree in front of his quarter has decayed with more than half of its trunk worn out. 8220;This tree can uproot any time during monsoon or when there is a storm,8221; Ansari said. 8220;Our school staff8217;s representations have gone unnoticed about cutting down this dangerous tree,8221; he said. The mayor has promised that the tree would be cut at the earliest.
