JAMMU, Feb 18: Four militants, including a district chief of ISI operations, were among five people killed in separate incidents in Jammu region, official sources said here on Thursday.

Three militants belonging to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, a pro-Pakistan outfit, were shot dead by the police in an encounter in Mendhar last night.

They were identified as Khalid Bhai alias Fouji Bhaijilla, chief of ISI8217;s operations for Poonch district, Jehlum Punjkash and Kauser, self-styled area commander of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen for Mendhar, the sources said.

A pika gun, one AK-47 rifle, one wireless set, four handgrenades and large quantity of ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.

In another incident yesterday, one militant, identified as Lal Mohammad, was killed in Mendhar.

An AK-rifle and some ammunition was recovered from the spot.

According to a report from Rajouri, militants killed a village defence committee member in Chapnari yesterday.

Sources said an explosion rocked Surankote town last night, adding no one was injured in the incident.
