SURAT, Sept 6: Four persons, including a minor and an elderly woman, committed suicide on Monday, cases registered in the city and district police stations said. While one of the suicidal deaths could have resulted from a minor argument, the police is still probing into the cause of three other unnatural deaths.

Arvind Ravji Rathod, 28, a resident of Bhangad Colony, Gothan Gaam, committed suicide by hanging to the roof of his house. A case registered in the Olpad district police station by his father-in-law Kamu Chhitu Gamit said Arvind had an argument with his wife over who should buy vegetables from the market. Later, upset over the argument, he hung himself and was found dead by relatives.

In a similar case registered in the Katargam police station on Monday afternoon, 12-year-old Archana Bhagwan Shinde hung herself to the roof of her house. According to details, Archana locked herself in the room at her 12, Dairy Falia house beside Khodiyar Mata Mandir at around 1.30 pm and ended her life. The police is still investigating the reason of suicide.

Another youth, Bhura Bandhu Rohidas, 18, also committed suicide by hanging himself in his room at Arvibhav Society, Pandesara. The police, which has registered a case under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, said neighbours found him hanging to the ceiling fan at around 7 am on Monday morning, but is yet to ascertain the reason behind the extreme step.

In the fourth case registered at the Katargam police station on Monday, 50-year-old Jivi Ramji Solanki died after consuming poison in her house at Gotalawadi in the afternoon. Family members rushed her to Maskati Hospital at around 3.45 pm, but she was declared dead within minutes of being admitted. The police is investigating the case.
