The heavy fog blanket in the Capital has not only thrown flight and rail schedules askew, but also brought down temperatures. For the first time, since the start of the season, the temperature in Delhi is down to 20.8 degrees Celcius and Delhiites can feel the bite in the air. From yesterday8217;s 25.5 degrees Celcius, this is a considerable dip.

Almost all of North India is under dense fog.

Cold wave swept through Amritsar as the minimum temperature recorded was 2 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal, the Met department said.

The minimum temperature in Patiala and Ludhiana was 7.6 degrees Celsius.

Despite the decrease in day temperatures, the night temperature in Delhi continues to hover around the 8 degree mark, that is 1 degree above normal.

The weatherman at the Safdarjung Met Department says Delhi is cold because of the cloud cover that blocks the sun from heating the surface.

8220;Cloudy sky, accompanied by Northerly winds, is keeping the temperatures low, like any other year,8221; he says.

He said the fog will last for the next two days at least.
