HOBART, November 30: A brilliant Matt Horne century and a gambling declaration by New Zealand breathed new life to the third Test as it appeared destined for a draw today.

New Zealand declared on 251 for six, 149 runs behind Australia8217;s 400, late on the fourth day.

Australia, opening with Mark Taylor 5 not out and Mark Waugh 9 not out, were 14 without loss at stumps, taking a lead of 163 runs.

With most of the first and third day lost to rain and a draw being the likely result, skipper Stephen Fleming8217;s gesture has set up a stage for an enthralling finish to an already dead rubber. Australia clinched the three-match series with wins in Brisbane and Perth.

Medium paceman Steve Waugh briefly rocked the New Zealand batting in a 19-ball spell before the declaration. After Horne 133 and Adam Parore, who scored 44, shared a record 132 runs for the second wicket, disaster struck in the form of Waugh and umpiring.
