Fishermen postpone agitation

July 2: Fishermen under the Mumbai Sagarputra Machhimar Vividh Karyakari Sahakari society Ltd have decided to postpone their early plans for a Thursday, July 3 agitation. Addressing a press conference in the city on Wednesday, Damodar Tandel, President of the fishermen8217;s association alleged rampant corruption at the fishing docks with trawler owners having to pay money to government officials.

8220;Despite the contributions of the fishermen8217;s community who export fish worth over Rs 500 crore, we are not given basic amenities at the ferry wharf,8221; Tandel said.The agitation had been postponed after MBPT chairman Sharad Kale promised to look into their grievances within a fortnight.
