Fresh from an attack on former party president M. Venkaiah Naidu, the BJP on Monday demanded the Election Commission ‘‘provide adequate security to candidates’’ and impose President’s Rule in Bihar since an ‘‘extraordinary situation prevailed’’ there.
A delegation led by Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, which met the CEC, alleged that RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav was ‘‘holding meetings and giving instructions to the administration and police personnel’’ on regular basis. The leaders alleged there was an ‘‘intimidating atmosphere that has been built on the yet unsolved issue of serial kidnapping of schoolchildren, the murder of a candidate and attack on a helicopter in which Venkaiah Naidu was travelling’’. They said posters on Banerjee Committee report were being distributed despite a ban.
