Lalan Singh dismisses RCP Singh’s return to JD-U — ‘No place here for someone who brought down party tally’

Amid speculation over former Union minister RCP Singh’s return to the Janata Dal (United), senior party leader and Union minister Rajeev Ranjan Singh said Sunday there was no place for a person “responsible for bringing down party tally”.
Singh, better known as Lalan Singh, was referring to the 2020 Assembly polls, when the JD(U)’s tally fell to 43 seats from 71 in the previous election. At the time, RCP Singh was the party’s national general secretary (organisation).

The remarks come amid renewed speculation after Jan Surraj Party leader RCP Singh attended a Patel (Kurmi) community event. Asked about speculation surrounding the return of his once-fierce rival, Lalan Singh said there was “no vacancy in the party”.
Asked whether Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor — a former JD-U leader — could return, Lalan Singh appeared dismissive, saying: “Who is he? Wasn’t he the same person who used to say that he would reduce JD (U) to rubble and it would not get more than 25 seats. But people took it to 85 seats. He had talked about quitting politics. Is he still in politics?”
Once considered a close aide of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, RCP Singh — a former IAS officer and ex-Union minister — quit the JD(U) in August 2022 for the BJP, but later left it to float his own outfit, Aap Saabki Aawaz.

Aap Sabki Aawaz merged with the Jan Suraaj Party ahead of the Assembly polls in November. Jan Suraaj drew a blank in the elections.
RCP Singh recently set off speculation again when, at a Kurmi event also attended by Nitish Kumar, he said there was “no difference between Nitish Kumar and me, and both were one”.
While RCP Singh has yet to react to Lalan Singh’s statement, a JSP leader said: “When did Prashant Kishor say he would join JD (U)? He would take people’s questions more strongly than ever before.”
