
NEW DELHI, June 2: Employees State Insurance Corporation ESIC became the first team to enter the superleague stage of the DSA-OBC Institutional League Championship. They defeated Delhi Transport Corporation 6-0 in a group 3 encounter to secure a berth at the Ambedkar Stadium here today.
In another match in group 1, defending champions Food Corporation of India North Zone defeated Zakir Husain College 1-0 to ensure their place in the superleague. FCI8217;s win today took their points to 13 from five games while ZHF have nine from five outings. On the other hand, ESIC s tally soared to 10 from as many games and DTC drew a blank.
Another match scheduled for the day between Engineers India Ltd and Delhi Administration was called off following duststorm and heavy rains. It will now be played on June 4 in the morning session.
ESIC took advantage of a hapless DTC and pounded them whenever the opportunity presented. Six minutes into the game, ESIC took the lead through Surinder Bisht and he increased the tally by banging in once more in the 20th minute. Pushpinder Kundu struck their third goal as the team went for a break.
On resumption, ESIC kept the tempo but it took them quite a long before they added to their tally when Thao Appao scored twice within two minutes before Bisht completed the task with his third goal.
FCI toiled all day against a stubborn Zakir Husain College boys as the match raised to its cresendo with both going for the broke. Quite a few chances were missed by the teams and after a barrern first half, the all-important goal was struck by defender Gurmeet Singh. Following a flag-kick taken by Jagmohan in the 40th minute, Gurmeet headed in the swirling shot to seal the fate of ZHC.
IAF emerge champs
Superb knocks by Mohanty 63 and KK Dixit 61 helped Indian Air Force Palam crush Inborn Cricketers by 95 runs and win the A-II division DDCA super league championship at Kotla.
Indian Air Force won the toss and elected to bat. They made 225 in 40 stipulated overs. Mohanty, KK Dixit and Asif Khan were main the scorers. Anugrah Mishra got two wickets for 26 for Inborn Cricketers.
In rply, Inborn Cricketers were dismissed for 130 in 34 overs. Suresh 33 and Vishal Razdan 32 were the main scorers. S Shashidharan got three wickets while HP Sharma, TC Pandey and RK Singh claimed two wicket each for Indian Air Force.
