JALANDHAR, Dec 20:: Gurpartap Singh Sodhi, a murder undertrial who had escaped from the police custody in the local civil hospital last week, was arrested last night while trying to flee after snatching a car from a Hoshairpur resident.

Hoshairpur Senior Superinttendent of Police R. P. Mittal today said when Dr Sandeep Kumar Kharbanda informed the police that a youth had snatched his Maruti car at dagger point from near Roshan ground in Hoshairpur. The police thus sounded an alert.

He said that when the ASI Jaswinder Pal intercepted the Maruti PB-07E-9292 last night, its lone occupant turned out to be Gurpartap Singh Sodhi, who had been charged by Jalandhar city police with the murder of Rakesh Kumar of Gobindgarh Mohalla here.

Gurpartap Singh was admitted to the civil hospital here when he complained of Hernia pain, but one morning last week, he managed to escape despite the police guard posted to keep a watch on him, police sources said.

Hoshairpur police has registered a case under section 411 of IPC following the recovery of the car.Amurder case under section 302, IPC already stands registered against him. Body of mising 19yr old found: Joginder Pal, 19, of nearby Sufi pind, missing from his home since December 13, was found dead in a village nullah today, police sources said.The body was removed to the civil hospital to ascertain the cause of the death, sources added.
