8226; I fully agree with the views expressed by Kumar Ketkar 8216;The Morality Tamasha8217;, IE, July 13. If Sharad Pawar does not put a stop to the antics of the self-righteous NCP leaders in Maharashtra, he and his party will lose much of the goodwill they have built up over the years. One nuisance going by the name of Shiv Sena is enough for the people of Maharashtra. We do not need another 8212; by another name. R.R. Patil is trying to impose the morality of a one-horse town on a metropolitan city like Bombay I refuse it call it Mumbai. Does he not have more important and urgent matters to attend to?

Left in a lurch

8226; The report, 8216;In Left8217;s Bengal villages, why Naxals have comrades on the run8217; IE, July 13, shows that the Left8217;s philosophy is unsustainable on the ground. People need to realise that productivity is what is important, not ideology 8212; even to help the poor. Otherwise, they will make the same disastrous mistakes that the erstwhile Soviet Union did.

Terrible burden

8226; This is with reference to the Supreme Court8217;s decision regarding the ouster of Bangladeshis who came after 1971 to India. Rather than making it a political issue and playing communal politics, the Congress and the Left should think in terms of the national interest. Not only has the refugee population increased, it has put a terribly unsustainable burden on India and all Indians. Persons who have come to India illegally should be made to leave the country as soon as possible. Kudos to the Supreme Court for having dealt with the issue in such a clear-headed fashion.

Worthy move

8226; Apropos of the report 8216;Free education bill draft ready8217; IE, July 14, this is one of the good initiatives taken up by the BJP government. The present government is re-implementing it after addressing some of the loopholes in the earlier law. This is something our country needs urgently. If it places an additional burden on the Budget, let taxpayers pay more so that at least we can see some improvement in the lives of the impoverished people of the country in the long run.

Making amends

8226; Sonia Gandhi has done well to make amends for a disastrous step 8216;Sonia steps back, Debroy is back8217;, IE, July 13. It is good news that Bibek Debroy will continue as director of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Contemporary Studies. Sonia Gandhi seems to have a knack for picking up wrong advice generated by her
coterie of 8220;wise men8221;.

8212; F.S.K. Barar Jodhpur

What8217;s in a name?

8226; Today I find a horrible news appearing quite surreptitiously in a section of press. It is about a girl of six who was raped in the office of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Orissa. Of course, her name should have been Imrana or Gudia to be noticed by the press. The culprit should have been Anwar or Akhtar to make the headlines. I wish the parents of victim had taken a fatwa from the Darul Uloom Deoband so that the case would have come into the spotlight and the culprits brought to justice.
