CHANDIGARH, Sept 17: A delegation of sub-divisional engineers and junior engineers of the UT Administration and the Municipal Corporation today met Administrator Lt Gen B. K. N. Chhibber (retd).The delegation of UT Sectional Officers Union alleged that they were victims of misuse of authority earlier by the top officials of the Engineering Department and subsequently by the Home Department. They charged that different yardsticks were being used for different departments for similar kinds of allegations of corruption.The members pointed out that although there have been reports of objectionable purchases and contract orders by the Estate Office and the deputy commissioner's office, these have not been turned into criminal cases. They added that on the other hand, the case relating to the Engineering Department was being termed as criminal and legal provision was being used to harass the officials.The members said that the Administratior assured them that he would look into the matter and ensure that only the guilty be punished and the innocent not be harassed. The union has deferred its decision to proceed on mass casual leave in light of the favourable response of the Administrator. The union members have decided to continue wearing black badges till next action is pronounced.
