Emergency CPM meet today

An emergency meeting of the top CPIM leadership is to be held in Chennai on Friday.

The meeting of the 8220;available Politburo8221; members assumes significance on two counts. Party sources said 8220;developments in the direction of the operationalisation of the nuclear deal8221; from the Centre and the fine-tuning of agendas for the party Politburo slated for September 28 in Kolkata will come up for discussions.

Apart from General Secretary Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechury, Brinda Karat, Umanath, M K Pandhe, K Varadharajan and S Ramachandran Pillai are expected to attend the meeting.

The sources said since most of the leaders would be busy with various 8220;campaign meetings8221;, they had decided to meet in the Tamil Nadu capital. The Politburo meeting on September 28 will be followed by a three-day central committee meeting.
