Mumbai, March 20: All eight FIDE-rated players won their first-round games in the Mumbai Open Chess Tournament, organised by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and conducted by the Bombay Chess Association, at the IIT Convocation Hall, Powai, on Monday.In an English Opening game, third seed Amardeep Bartakka (Elo 2212) of Satara, grabbed a piece for two pawns in the opening and then simplified to take the game in 37 moves.VKN Solanki (2162) of MTNL and Ganesh Bhilare (2145) defeated Prabhakar Ogale of BSES and Snehal Bhosale of Guru Nanak, respectively.Rashmi Pulekar (2135) of Western Railway, playing white, had to wait a full four hours to pocket a point from Amey Gaokar of Dyan Saghana College. Pradeep Paranjape (2119) and Prasad Ghate (2087) scored over Anant Ghurat of Uran and Anand Makoare, respectively.Hosts IIT had 12 participants from their students and professors.
