PUNE, April 21: Youngsters Sports Club overcame a spirited Pune City Police by a solitary first half goal while State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) were stretched to their limits before edging out K P XI 4-2 via tie-breaker to enter the second round of the late Anthony (Maharaj) memorial football tournament at the Military ground, Ghorpuri, here today.SRPF made changes in their line up, however but the forwards Kishore Pol, Sandeep Badkar and Raju Masikar made a hash of easy sitters. However it was their keeper Vijay Kadam who stood out with some excellent saves during the regular time and in the tie-breaker too.In the tie-breaker, Shaheed Shaikh, Kishore Pol, Sandeep Badkar and Joshua Kola netted for SRPF. While Dinesh Dravida and Sanjay Pillay were the only players to score for the losers. SRPF's Kiran Jawale, S T Naidu and Shaheed Shaikh and K P XI's Mukesh Kumar received yellow cards by referee Askokan A K.In the Youngsters - Pune City Police encounter, though the Youngsters forwards Durand Engineer, Patrick D'Souza, Ray Tucker and Atul Gaikwad kept the rival defence on their toes, the final touch was still missing in most of their efforts.The only goal of the match came off a fine combination of Andrew Fernandes, Patrict D'Souza and Durand Engineer in the 25th minute. Andrew initiated a pass to Patrick running down the right flank. He in turn sprinted towards the goal while dribbling past a couple of defenders on the way and took a first time second angle attempt. Before the attempt could go beyond the second post, Durand Engineer appeared in a flash to give the finishing touch.Today's fixtures: 3.30 p.m: Kirkeeans vs Parshuramians; 4.45 p.m: Thundercatz `A' vs Warriors.
