MUMBAI, June 30: DUNLOP India has posted a net profit of Rs 5.14 crore, down from Rs 39 crore a year earlier. It has reported a total turnover of Rs 562.99 crore for the year ended March 31, 1997, as against Rs 824.03 crore for the 15-month accounting period to March 31, 1996.

Gross profit, during 1996-97, was Rs 11.52 crore compared with 46.72 crore in the previous accounting year. Profit before tax stood at Rs 5.8 crore as against Rs 39 crore. The company has made a provision of Rs 0.66 crore for tax. The board has recommended a dividend of Re 1 per share for the year to March 1997.

United Phos

MUMBAI: United Phosphorus has reported a net profit of Rs 27.58 crore for the year ended March 1997, a 43 per cent fall from the last year8217;s figure of Rs 48.30 crore. Total turnover was, however, higher at Rs 556.36 crore compared with Rs 429.47 crore. The company8217;s outgo on interest was nearly four times last year at Rs 48.15 crore as against Rs 12.56 crore. The provision for tax was also up from Rs 2.6 crore to Rs 4.15 crore. Dividend per equity share has been maintained at Rs 3 and Rs 14 per preference share. The outgo consequently is Rs 8.91 crore compared with Rs 7.72 crore.

Nabard interest

MUMBAI: THE National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Nabard has decided to reduce its interest rate on short-term refinance to co-operative banks by one per cent, following a reduction in the bank rate by Reserve Bank of India, from 11 to 10 per cent.

The reduction has been made applicable with effect from June 26, the date of reduction in the bank rate announced by the RBI, said a Nabard press release. The reduced rate will result in reduction in the rate of interest by coop banks.
