On a high

JP Yadav: If India is looking for an all-rounder, he could be of the better bets. Very deceptive bowling seam-up, the Railwayman wrecked East for the second time in two days, finishing with 10 wickets against his name. Yet to justify his billing as a hard-hitter he will have one more chance with the willow to make this a memorable outing.

MS Dhoni: His batting was a decisive factor while picking him up for the India cap but Dhoni8217;s abilities with the bigger gloves came to the fore when he took seven catches in Central8217;s first innings. A little more resilience in batting and Dhoni is here to stay.

Out of shadow

Romesh Powar: His four-wicket haul against some of the established names in Indian cricket means the Mumbai offie is now firmly out of Harbhajan8217;s shadow. His effort with the ball gives selectors more options.

Boom time

SS Paul: This is boom time for the Indian pace industry. The performance of Zaheer and Nehra notwithstanding, the burly Bengal paceman is forcing the selectors to take notice of him with another stinging spell of quick bowling. His six-wicket haul against Central is a pointer in that direction.

Ranadeb Bose: Yet another paceman from the Bengal stable and in many ways, the find of the season. Combining height with physical strength, he can produce a deadly dose of fast bowling and his four wickets had ample reflections of that.

Jarring note

Dinesh Mongia: Slowly but steadily, Mongia seems to be dropping out of contention. Another single digit innings will make it increasingly difficult for the Punjab skipper to leave a mark.
