VADODARA, Dec 29: City8217;s noted orthopaedic surgeon Prithipal Chhabda performed a key-hole surgery on the knee-joint on an 18-year-old youth at Sapan Hospital recently. He claims it to be the first such surgery performed successfully in the city.
A resident of Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh, the patient had injured his knee during a long-jump session, destablising it in the process. Wanting to join the army, he approached the All India Institute of Medical Sciences at New Delhi for treatment.
The doctors there advised him that his knee-joint would have to be opened for reconstructing the ligament. But the patient did not agree because it would have led to several other complications.
Chhabda claimed that by using a highly sophisticated arthroscope and microscopic instruments, he reconstructed the ligament without opening the knee. Chhabda also claims to have performed 2,000 arthroscopic surgery.
