The mortal remains of 19-year-old Ishrat Jahan Sheikh, who was gunned down along with three other alleged LeT militants in Ahmedabad on June 15, was buried on Saturday amid tight police security at Mumbra. It was 11 am when the bier finally left for the Kausa burial ground. The final rites were performed by Ishrat’s younger brother Anwar. Their mother Shamima alleged that the Ahmedabad police had blackmailed her into giving a statement. ‘‘They told me if I did not give a statement saying Javed and Ishrat knew each other, I wouldn’t get custody of my daughter’s body.’’ Denying the charge, ACP (Crime Branch) D.G. Vanjhara said: ‘We did not compel or pressurise her in any way. We put forward a set of questions based on intelligence inputs.’
