CHANDIGARH, Nov 27: The members of Dhobi Welfare Society marched down to the Deputy Commissioner’s office to press for their demands, here today.

The dhobis, wearing only underwears, began the procession from Sector 20 around 10 a.m. They raised slogans against the Administration and later submitted a memorandum listing their various demands. They were demanding issuance of identity cards and eviction of a dhobighat which they alleged had been "illegally" occupied by the PWD. The rally was addressed by society chairman and CTCC general secretary Gurbachan Singh among others.
