After designing JJ Valaya8217;s Lifestyle studio, Manjeet Bullar wants to leave his mark on the city

Anything can be a fashion item, as long as the object has been sufficiently overlooked to merit a re-interpretation,8221; says interior designer Manjeet Bullar, here to study the city and design a collection especially for it. In the profession for over 25 years now, Bhullar8217;s file flaunts names like Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and JJ Valaya8217;s Lifestyle studio. 8220;It just happened over time. I defied all trends, worked with history and people liked it,8221; he sums up his journey in two lines and says that his furniture and designs USP is that they have a soul. 8220;House lives with us and each and every part of it has to be dealt with carefully,8221; Bhullar goes beyond the conventional list of what8217;s in and what8217;s out. 8220;Style by its very virtue is timeless and classic and fashion is sweeping,8221; he states his signature style.

The designer, having been amongst the first ones to bring in the concept of 8216;Retail Destination8217;, discloses that history and culture are his muse. 8220;Themes, references and concepts that are from an ancient era appeal to me,8221; chirps Bhullar, reeling that for now sufism, Indian history and Islamic thought are his inspiration. Viewing products beyond their form, 8220;I like to bring in cultural aesthetics in my artifacts and believe that design and culture are constantly interacting,8221; Bhullar sees every object as symbolic and weighs it on its practical rendering. As his gaze moves around the city roads and ticks off elements, his observations are no different. 8220;The sharp and cutting lines of the city would be hard to match. The organic geometry will have to be kept in mind,8221; Bhullar asserts that to compliment the 8220;wholesome character8221; of the city, he will have to use all elements in the design dictionary. 8220;Just like every alphabet of vocabulary is used to make a complete story, here too all sensibilities will have to come together,8221; he draws a rough sketch of his collection that will be customized for Chandigarh and will be showcased in December. For now, he8217;ll host an interaction at the Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10, on November 8 at 5:00 pm.
