Defence panel seeks restructuring of pilot training

Alarmed by the high number of IAF aircraft crashes attributed to human error, a top parliamentary committee has recommended a complete restructuring of the training module given to pilots to match with 8220;international standards8221;.

Alarmed by the high number of IAF aircraft crashes attributed to human error, a top parliamentary committee has recommended a complete restructuring of the training module given to pilots to match with 8220;international standards8221;. Reacting to IAF statistics which show that most of the 52 air crashes in the past four years were caused due to human errors, the committee said that training methodology 8220;needs immediate improvement, correction and expansion8221;.

Significantly, the committee also added a political angle to its recommendations for improving training infrastructure by pushing a case for a pilot training college in Nashik. The committee is headed by a senior Congress leader who hails from Maharashtra8217;s Kopargaon constituency.

The 30-member committee has five MPs from Maharashtra.
