
VADODARA, AUG 31: District Collector and Returning Officer Anil Mukim, as per the election code of conduct, requisitioned official vehicles of all the top officers of government boards, co-operatives, civic bodies and other institutions in the district.
Talking to Express Newsline, Mukim said that the officials included those from the Gujarat Electricity Board, Gujarat State Fertiliser Corporation and also the Vadodara Municipal Corporation. 8220;There are going to be 50-odd such vehicles which would be used for election duty8221;, he added.
Election officials also removed at least 20 more Bharatiya Janata Party posters put up at public places in various parts of Harni Road on Tuesday. Deputy Election Officer M A Chauhan said that though there were a couple of other complaints too, they were found to be baseless.
Meanwhile, at a meeting here earlier on Tuesday, Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh lauded the district administration8217;s poll arrangements. Lyngdoh also instructed all the top officials of the police and the collectorate to initiate steps to maintain peace during polls in Vadodara, which was among the sensitive seats in the State, Mukim said.
The administration has also stepped up its efforts to maintain the law and order situation in the city in wake of Prime Minister A B Vajpayee8217;s brief halt at the Vadodara airport on September 2. According to official information, the Prime Minister would reach here around noon by a Boeing and go to Surat by a helicopter thereafter.
