There seems to be no end to BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya’s legal troubles. Already in the midst of a potentially messy telecast rights case, Dalmiya now faces legal hurdles in his bid to become the BCCI’s patron-in-chief after his term as president ends.

The BCCI executive is to hold a Special General Meeting in Chennai tomorrow to facilitate Jagmohan Dalmiya’s appointment as patron-in-chief when he steps down as president at the end of the month.

However, information available with this paper says a Bhopal court has, in an interim order, directed the BCCI to refrain from taking any decision contrary to its rules while considering a proposal for making Dalmiya its patron-in-chief.

A PTI report said the interim injunction was ordered by magistrate P K Nigam yesterday while accepting a petition filed by Bhopal Cricket Association member Jogesh Khattar.

Though BCCI secretary SK Nair didn’t acknowledge the receipt of any court order, counsel for plaintiff Vivek Thanka told this paper that every cricket association under BCCI had been informed about it.

Conceding that the BCCI constitution provided for the nomination of a ‘‘distinguished person’’ being invited to hold the post, the petition has objected to Dalmiya getting the post. Thanka said he told the court that since Dalmiya was the president it would mean ‘‘he extending an invitation to himself to become the patron’’ and that would be unconstitutional.
