Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two shooters allegedly involved in the killing of a 52-year-old dairy owner in South Delhi’s Aya Nagar a month ago. The victim, Ratan Lohiya, was shot 69 times near his home on November 30.
A police officer said the two shooters — Kamal and Narender alias Neetu — were caught in Southwest Delhi’s Dwarka following a brief exchange of fire on Tuesday morning. A Crime Branch team laid a trap for the duo, who were on a motorcycle. “On spotting the police team, the accused opened fire. In retaliation, the team members fired back, injuring both suspects in their legs,” the officer said.
“During questioning , Kamal, the main accused, revealed that Ratan had dared them during a public meeting in their locality. He also said that during the shooting, they realised he was wearing a bulletproof jacket; therefore, they fired enough bullets to ensure he was dead,” the officer said. The accused had also changed the magazines of the gun during the shooting, he added.
On November 30, Ratan was on his way to work when a Nissan Magnite car with five men intercepted him and opened fire. Even as Ratan was wearing a bulletproof jacket, it did little to protect him from the hail of bullets. Police said the attackers fired as many as 72 rounds, with 69 finding their target.
Using CCTV footage, police identified Kamal, Narender, and one Anuj Chaudhary as the main shooters. The other two, who were sitting in the car, could not be identified.
Police said Anuj and the other two accused are yet to be arrested.
According to police, Ratan’s murder was a fallout over the killing of Arun Lohiya (25), who lived in the same locality, over a property and financial dispute. Arun was killed in May 2025 near Chattarpur Metro Station. Ratan’s elder son Deepak Lohiya was arrested in this case.
Police claimed their investigation revealed that Kamal, who is Arun’s uncle, is facing at least eight criminal cases in Faridabad, Haryana. Police claimed he sought help from US-based Neeraj Faridpuria-Himanshu Bhau gang and the Western UP Randeep Bhati gang to take revenge for his nephew’s killing.
Police said Narender is believed to be a member of the Faridpuria-Bhau gang. He faces around half a dozen cases in Faridabad. Anuj, police claimed, is a shooter with the Bhati gang.
Officers said they recovered two sophisticated .30-bore pistols and 40 rounds of live cartridges from the accused. The motorcycle on which the duo were travelling was stolen, they added.
