Videos from Deepika Padukone’s fan meet have been doing the rounds on social media. A few days ago, the actor invited a select group of over 50 fans from across India for an intimate fan meet in Mumbai. Several moments from the event went viral but it was Deepika opening up about the possibility of starring in a romantic comedy that truly caught everyone’s attention. During the interaction, the actor spoke about potentially sharing the screen in a rom-com with Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, or Ranbir Kapoor, and admitted that she is actively looking for strong stories in the genre.

“When are we seeing you in a rom-com again?” a fan asked Deepika Padukone. Responding to the question, the actor said, “I really hope very, very soon. As you all know, it is also one of my most favourite genres as an audience and also as an actor.”

However, the actress also shared her concerns about the feasibility of such projects in the current climate. In her words, “I just feel like the climate right now or the environment right now, I feel like the audience is seeking something else. But if so many of you want a rom-com, I am sure a large part of the public also wants that.”

As fans began shouting names of potential co-stars, Deepika smiled when someone mentioned Hrithik Roshan and responded, “With Hrithik?” When fans then shouted Ranbir Kapoor’s name, she admitted, “Ranbir, okay, so we have spoken about it honestly.” Following this, the MC at the event took a poll of the audience and asked them to cheer for different pairings—Deepika-Hrithik, Deepika-Shah Rukh Khan, and Deepika-Ranveer. The loudest cheers were reserved for Deepika’s pairing with Ranveer Singh and Shah Rukh Khan.

The actor also asked her fans whether they would prefer to watch a rom-com film on OTT or in theatres. As fans shouted out their preferences, Deepika asked, “If I do OTT will you be upset?” One fan responded loudly, “You are meant for big screen.” Another fan cheekily added, “As long as your character doesn’t die it is okay.” Deepika laughed and admitted, “My mother also keeps saying this.”

For the unversed, Deepika Padukone’s characters die in several of her films, including her debut Om Shanti Om, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, in which her character is shot, the historical epic Padmaavat, where she performs self-immolation, and Jawan, in which she is executed by hanging.

She further added, “This is something that even my team and I keep looking out for constantly. We’re constantly looking for drama, love story, rom-com, these genres. But I feel like there are very few producers backing that kind of content or very few writing that right now.”

Rumours have been doing the rounds that Deepika might be collaborating with Ranbir Kapoor for Ayan Mukerji’s next romantic film. However, there has been no official announcement on the same so far. Deepika will next be seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s King. She is also set to collaborate with Allu Arjun for an upcoming Atlee directorial.
