Woman burns herself to death
A woman, aged about 50 years, burnt herself to death here yesterday. Sector 40 resident, Kuljit Kaur, set herself afire after pouring kerosene over herself at her residence. According to police, she took the drastic step as she had been tense Her husband, Ajit Singh, who is handicapped, injured himself while trying to save her. The two were admitted to the PGI, where Kuljit succumbed to her injuries this morning.

House burgled in Panchkula
A house in Sector 9, Panchkula, was burgled on Sunday night when thieves entered the ground floor of the house after breaking the grill. The family was asleep on the first floor when the incident took place. A case has been registered.

9 bottles of whisky seized; 1 held
Police have arrested one Pappu of Sector 38 from Shahpur Chowk for reportedly carrying nine bottles of whisky. A case under the Excise Act has been registered.

12 arrested for violating peace
Police have arrested 12 persons from different parts of the city during the past 24 hours. Six persons were held for threat to peace, four were held for creating nuisance in a state of intoxication, one was held for roaming under suspicious circumstances and another for driving under the influence of liquor.
