JAIPUR, SEPT 23: A contempt petition was filed in a local court today against the Cricket Board BCCI for going ahead with the election of its president on Tuesday despite a stay granted against the conduct of election or annoucement of its result. The petitioner, M Ranga Reddy, secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, also sought permission of the court of Mahendra Kumar Sharma to amend his original suit in view of the board having gone ahead with the election and a direction to it to stop the newly-elected president, AC Muthiah, from functioning.
Earlier, Reddy had obtained a stay against the annoucement of the result pleading his right to represent HCA in the Board meeting and participate in voting.
He submitted that the court order had been conveyed to the board functionaries by his lawyer RN Mathur on phone but the Board went ahead with the election allowing HCA to be represented by its president GS Surana and announced the result which amounted to contempt of Court.
The hearing on thepetition which was inconclusive would be resumed on September 28.
Meanwhile, another petition filed by the Board for vacation of the stay was also heard today and will be taken up again tomorrow.
In announcing the result, the Board had taken the plea that the Court order had not been served on it before the exercise was completed.
