The Dimapur-based III Corps Commander, Lt General Rajinder Singh, has been asked to put in his papers after alleged misconduct in 8216;8216;non-operational8217;8217; matters.

Top sources said that Gen Singh submitted his 8216;8216;pre-mature8217;8217; retirement papers before the Army Headquarters last week.

Major General Daljit Singh, who was earlier Major General General Staff, Southern Army Command, has been 8216;8216;attached8217;8217; to the Dimapur Corps.

Gen Daljit Singh, who has been apparently approved to pick up his next rank, is slated to take over as General Officer Commanding, III Corps.

It is learnt that Army Chief General N C Vij asked his subordinate staff to find a replacement for Gen Rajinder Singh during the course of the Combined Commanders Conference last week.

While South Block is tight-lipped over the 8216;8216;premature retirement8217;8217; of Gen Rajinder Singh, all Army Headquarters says is that Singh has gone for 8216;8216;non-operational, personal8217;8217; reasons.

The III Corps is a dual-task formation with a strike role in Jammu and Kashmir. During Operation Parakram, it was deployed in Kashmir and moved back to its headquarters only three months ago.

The Corps, along with its counterpart in Tezpur-based IV Corps, is responsible for counter-insurgency operations in the North-East and also mans the Line of Actual Control with China.

Gen Rajinder Singh, appointed as GOC, III Corps this year, belongs to the 1966 NDA batch and was earlier Commander of the 28 Division that is headquartered in J038;K.

It is understood that Gen Rajinder Singh was heading a court of inquiry into alleged misappropriation of funds in an Eastern Army Command hospital. Army Headquarters says Singh8217;s removal has nothing to do with this inquiry.
